Empty Fruit Bunches (EFB) are the main fibrous by-product of palm oil production. With the rising demand for biomass energy, EFB pellet machines turn these waste materials into high-density pellet fuel. The pellets work well in applications like power generation, heating, and industrial boilers.

Highly adaptable
This machine processes a wide range of palm waste materials—including empty fruit bunches (EFB), palm kernel shells, palm fibers, and oil palm EFB—and also handles pelletizing for biomass energy sources like rice husks and crop stalks.
The finished pellets serve extensive applications in large-scale power generation, district heating, industrial boilers, catering, domestic heating, animal feed and organic fertilizer production.

The machine’s entire transmission system utilizes high-precision gearing, along with high-quality imported bearings and oil seals; while boosting efficiency by approximately 15% compared to belt-driven models, it simultaneously ensures highly efficient, stable, and low-noise transmission performance.

Variable-Frequency
Tailored to the characteristics of long and easily entangled fibers of EFB, this machine is engineered with a large-capacity arch-breaking hopper and adopts a dual-shaft counter-rotating stirring structure. Meanwhile, it is fitted with variable-frequency feeding regulation, which automatically adjusts the feed rate based on the main motor current, thereby delivering a uniform and steady material flow for downstream working sections.

High-Force Push-Type
An extended variable-pitch forced feeder is adopted to forcibly compact and convey fluffy EFB fibers into the pelleting chamber. Its adjustable feeding speed makes it well suited for raw materials with varying moisture contents. Furthermore, the drive system is configured with a worm gear reducer. Compared with conventional belt drive, it achieves more precise gear ratio matching and reduces long-term maintenance costs.

Intelligent and Efficient
This unit uses a high-efficiency Siemens motor and comes with an intelligent power regulation system.We fabricate the ring die and pressure rollers from stainless steel and 42CrMo alloy to greatly reduce wear and tear. Furthermore, the machine is fitted with safety protection mechanisms that automatically cut off power in the event of abnormal operating conditions, thereby ensuring the safe and secure operation of the equipment.

RICHI EFB pellet mills offer modular solutions from raw material receiving to finished product packaging. Below is the processing flow of their production line.
Cleaning and Impurity Removal
Use a rotary screen to remove large debris, stones, metals, and other impurities from the raw materials, and perform preliminary crushing if necessary.
Crushing and Grinding
Raw materials that meet the size specifications and are sufficiently dry are fed into a hammer mill to be ground into a fine powder. For materials with high toughness—such as empty fruit bunches or palm fibers—prior processing by a chipper or coarse crusher may be required.
Drying
The moisture content of the pulverized material is often relatively high; therefore, it requires hot-air drying using a rotary dryer to control the moisture level within the optimal range required for granulation (typically 12% to 18%).
Granulation
The thoroughly mixed raw materials enter the Empty Fruit Bunch (EFB) pelletizer, where they are formed into cylindrical pellets under the extrusion force of the ring die and pressure rollers. During the compaction process, any unformed powder automatically returns to the powder hopper for reprocessing.
Cooling and Screening
High-temperature particles enter a counter-current cooler to cool to room temperature, and are then classified by a vibrating screen to remove fine powder.
Packaging
The qualified finished granules enter the automated packaging system, where weighing, sealing, and warehousing are completed.

What is an arch-breaking feeder?
An arch-breaking feeder is a specialized device mounted on the mill feeding hopper. Agricultural residues such as stalk powder and grass powder have poor fluidity and tend to form bridging blockages inside the hopper and stop feeding. Built with a low-speed stirring shaft, it continuously agitates materials to break arching structure, ensuring steady and uniform material flow into the downstream forced feeder for stable continuous production.
Is it necessary to add a binder?
In the vast majority of cases, no additives are required. Empty fruit bunches naturally contain a certain amount of lignin, which allows them to bind naturally under appropriate temperature and pressure. Additions of 1% to 3% starch or vegetable oil are necessary only when the raw material consists of pure palm fiber or when pellets of exceptionally high hardness are required.
Why produce palm kernel shell pellets?
PKS possesses a low moisture content, which effectively enhances combustion efficiency. Furthermore, PKS pellets have a higher calorific value than raw PKS material and can help alleviate energy pressures by serving as a substitute for coal. Once pelletized, palm kernel shells offer clean usage as well as convenient storage and transportation.
