Floating Fish Feed Extruder
A floating fish feed extruder is a specialized piece of equipment designed for the production of floating fish feed pellets. It utilizes high temperature and high pressure to gelatinize and expand raw materials, which are then extruded through a die to form pellets that are capable of floating on the water’s surface for an extended period.
Production capacity : 0.2-12t/h

RICHI Floating
Fish Feed Extruder
Since its establishment in 1995, RICHI has focused on feed machinery for 31 years, committed to achieving maximum long-term value with the lowest operating costs.

Product Introduction
RICHI floating fish feed extruders fall into two main categories: single-screw and twin-screw models. The single-screw models require lower investment and offer simple operation, making them suitable for small-to-medium-scale production; the twin-screw models feature high processing capacity and superior stability, making them ideal for large-scale, high-value-added feed production lines.
Regardless of the type, it enables precise control over particle size, texture, and density, while offering the flexibility to produce floating, slow-sinking, and sinking feeds.

Exceptional Buoyancy Performance
Under standard processing conditions, the produced floating feed pellets can remain stably afloat on the water surface for 12 to 24 hours without sinking or disintegrating.
This gives surface-dwelling fish ample time to feed, prevents feed from sinking to the bottom and going to waste, and simultaneously reduces nitrogen and phosphorus pollution in the water body caused by uneaten feed, thereby improving water quality in the aquaculture environment.
Multi-Purpose Machine
By adjusting raw material moisture, extrusion temperature, screw speed, and die aperture, a single piece of equipment can rapidly switch between producing floating, slow-sinking, and sinking feeds.
Whether handling tilapia, catfish, shrimp, or crabs, the system responds with agility, resulting in a significant enhancement of equipment utilization and product diversity across the production line.
High Degree of Maturation
The high temperatures and pressures during the extrusion process induce complete starch gelatinization and protein denaturation, thereby effectively eliminating anti-nutritional factors present in raw materials such as soybeans.
Compared to ordinary pelleted feed, extruded feed is more easily digested and absorbed by fish, effectively improving the feed conversion rate and promoting healthy, rapid growth.
Energy-efficient and Durable
By utilizing steam heating to offset a portion of mechanical energy consumption, the electricity consumption per ton of material is reduced compared to traditional equipment. Furthermore, variable frequency technology enables the motor to automatically adjust its power usage in response to the load, thereby effectively minimizing idle power consumption.
Single-screw models feature simple maintenance, while twin-screw models are equipped with high-end bearings and motors, effectively reducing operating costs.

Main Components
of Feed Extruder
Floating fish feed extruder is mainly composed of three main parts: feeder, main extruder unit and control system. The following is a brief introduction to the main components of this extruder.
Feeder
Intelligent Variable Frequency
The feed inlet features a wide-mouth design and is equipped with a variable-frequency motor; this enables the machine to automatically adjust to the optimal feeding speed for various raw materials—such as those with high moisture or high fiber content—thereby effectively preventing blockages while ensuring the continuous and stable operation of the subsequent extrusion process, ultimately guaranteeing the production of pellets with uniform size.
Extrusion Chamber
High-Efficiency Molding
The extrusion chamber comes standard with a wear-resistant alloy screw and a bimetallic expansion sleeve, effectively minimizing wear and ensuring that materials undergo thorough gelatinization and expansion within a high-temperature, high-pressure environment. The equipment features a fixed soft-knife assembly that enables stepless speed cutting, resulting in finished products with clean, burr-free cuts.
Control System
Safe and Reliable
The main motor utilizes top-tier international brands—such as Siemens—delivering powerful performance with low energy consumption. The gearbox uses SKF bearings to ensure the machine’s long-term, stable operation. Furthermore, the independent electrical control cabinet features a safety shutdown function and supports one-touch start-stop operations and parameter monitoring, thereby effectively minimizing the risk of human error.

Fish Feed Extruder Process Flow
RICHI floating fish feed extruders offer modular solutions from raw material receiving to finished product packaging. Below is the processing flow of their production line.
Raw Material Cleaning
Impurities and moldy particles are removed through screening and magnetic separation, and the materials are stored in groups based on hardness and density to prevent uneven mixing.
Crushing and Mixing
Raw materials are fed in batches into the ultrafine grinder for independent grinding, thereby preventing cross-contamination.
Conditioning and Extrusion
The degree of pellet maturation is enhanced through steam conditioning, followed by high-temperature and high-pressure expansion using a floating extruder.
Drying
The granules are dried to an appropriate moisture level using a drying system, thereby preserving their porous structure and ensuring that they remain buoyant and do not sink over the long term.
Spray Coating
Evenly spray oil or functional liquid additives onto the surface of pellet feed to enhance its palatability.
Cooling and Packaging
Circulating cold air rapidly reduces the temperature of the granules to room temperature, after which a fully automatic packaging machine performs the weighing, filling, sealing, and labeling.

Frequently Asked Questions
The following is a summary of frequently asked questions regarding configuration, installation, after-sales service, pricing, and complete plant setup, to help you quickly understand RICHI products.
How do you determine whether the feed is floating properly?
Place a few pellets into clear water; high-quality floating feed should remain afloat for at least 12 hours. If the pellets sink rapidly, the raw material moisture content, temperature, or screw configuration should be checked.
Can you produce sinking feed?
Yes. By reducing moisture and temperature levels, and appropriately adjusting the screw speed, it is possible to produce semi-floating or sinking feed, suitable for fish that prefer to forage in the middle or bottom layers of the water.
How should heat-sensitive raw materials be handled?
Heat-sensitive ingredients are added directly to the oil intended for spraying, which is then applied—via a spraying machine—to both the surface and the interior of the feed. This process bypasses the fish feed extruder, thereby preventing high temperatures from damaging the heat-sensitive ingredients.
Is a boiler required?
Dry-type models do not require a boiler, whereas wet-type models (equipped with a conditioner) require a steam boiler to enhance the degree of cooking; the choice between the two can be made based on budget and processing requirements.
Core Equipment Configuration?
All equipment uses Siemens motors and SKF bearings; all parts in contact with materials are made of stainless steel.
Not satisfied with the price?
We recommend suitable models and processes based on customer needs, patiently answer questions, and provide multiple solutions for users to choose from.
